Whether we realise it or not, we all live with certain mindsets, mindsets that determine our reactions and responses in our daily lives.
Let me ask you...do you have a gratitude mindset or an entitled mindset? Don't rush to answer the question. Think about it.
Today I am consciously thinking about these mindsets in relation to me and all the roles and areas of my life. Its quite amazing that these mindsets shape our day to day life experiences...and this (the mindst that you have) also impacts the health of our brain.
Science shows that practicing gratitude enhances our brains health by boosting levels of dopamine and serotonin, the 'feel-good' neurotransmitters. When I pause to be grateful, and I encourage my clients to do add this to their daily routine, we activate pathways in the brain that make us feel more connected and grounded in the present (not just the future), reducing stress and even supporting mental clarity. My clients have proven this when they get consistent in applying this mindset, they have said that they sleep better and wake up in a more content mode. Our body is like a puzzle, the tangible parts and the intangible (thoughts, feelings and actions) functions/elements are all interwoven within us and make us who we are.
Whist entitlement on the other hand is more of a selfish and self-deserving mindset. Its a sense that they deserve 'whatever it is' just for being who they are. This mindset is just not healthy! One ends up being more frustrated when things don't go their way or their expectations are not met exactly how they wanted. This releases cortisol in the brain which over time can actually impact the memory and learning capabilities which will lead to a cycle of frustration.
Therefore, I am encouraging you and everyone you know to have a gratitude mindset. In fact, nurture gratitude by following these simple reflections that I use and share with my clients:
I am grateful for the unexpected joys that remind me of life as a precious gift
I am grateful for all my friends and family who support me with kindness and support
I am grateful for my brain's strength to adapt, grow and find joy in each new day regardless of the situation/circumstances I may be facing
I appreciate you!

Sometimes, I feel like I’m caught between two mindsets. Now that I’m walking with Christ, I strive to be grounded in gratitude, recognizing that everything I have is a gift. But there are times when my flesh takes over, and I start feeling entitled, thinking I deserve certain things because of my efforts or circumstances. My goal is to keep a spirit of gratitude and stay thankful in all things, trusting that God’s plan is always best.
